Hyderabad: Traders’ plea on metro land acquisition

Hyderabad: Badi Chowdi traders met the district collector and the Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director and requested them to restrict land acquisition to 65 ft and not 80 ft for the rail project. During their meeting on Wednesday, they said the government should talk directly to those affected.

The agreement worked out by HMR was not with the traders, they said. Suman Gupta, who led the traders at the meeting, said, “We are the affected parties and we are all representing them. We want HMR to talk to us only.” The members alleged that there had been middlemen who brokered the deal and the ‘right picture’ was not given to authorities.

With the pillar and also viaduct works completed at Sultan Bazaar and Badi Chowdi, other works of station area, hawkers plaza and staircases had to be carried out for which access area was required, according to officials.
