Nellore: The ordeals faced by people living on the eastern side of Nellore City between Audithya Nagar and Balaji Nagar to reach the western parts of the City are going to be over soon following a decision to build two bridges across Sarveypalli canal at two places. Another bridge has been proposed on Krishnapatnam canal that would connect Muthukur Road and Chintareddypalem on the limits of Nellore Municipal Corporation.

In addition to these, another bridge is proposed on Ramireddy drain connecting Lecturers Colony in Magunta Layout and Srihari Colony to reduce the distance to Ramalingapuram to put an end to the detour through mini bypass road to reach Ramalingapuram. Urban Development Minister P. Narayana has sent a communication to irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswar Rao requesting for the sanction of funds for constructing the four bridges.





According to Mr Narayana, Nellore city has been growing very fast with the population having crossed the 7 lakh mark. The two main canals, Survepalli canal and Krishnapatnam canal apart from the Ramireddy Drain pass through Nellore City for a length of 8 kms, 4 kms and 4 kms respectively and provide irrigation facility for farms.

Survepalli canal divides Nellore city into two eastern and western Nellore. The existing bridges on these canals are not wide enough to to allow free access in view of the present traffic to connect Eastern and Western Nellore areas. There is every need to construct the proposed four bridges to ensure an effective and easy way of connectivity and to avoid traffic jams around the existing bridges.

Meanwhile irrigation officials said they have submitted estimates for three works for obtaining administrative approval from the competent authority immediately. Estimates for the fourth work are under preparation, they added.
