Malappuram: In a suspected incident of honour killing, a father stabbed his 21-year-old daughter to death for her affair with a man from another caste at Pathanapuram near Areekode in the district on Thursday. The police arrested the accused P. Rajan. According to the police, Rajan had opposed his daughter P. Athira’s love affair with an Army man from Koyilandi who belongs to another caste. However, he had given his nod for the marriage as Athira stuck to her stand.

The wedding was scheduled to be held in a local temple on Friday. But there was an altercation between them on Thursday afternoon which ended up in the murder. Though Athira was taken to hospital, she succumbed to her injuries in the evening. The autopsy will be held on Friday. The police said that Rajan was drunk while stabbing Athira and a preliminary probe found that the murder was not planned.
