Bengaluru: Married for just 21 days, woman found hanging in hubby’s house

Bengaluru: A newlywed woman allegedly hanged herself at her residence in Railway quarters in KR Puram police limits.

The deceased, Ramita (21), a software engineer, was married to Naresh, an employee with the Indian Railways, just 21 days ago. While Naresh and his parents said that Ramita committed suicide, her parents allege that their daughter was murdered by Naresh and his family over dowry.

Ramita, who was working with a reputed MNC in Marathahalli, had fallen in love and got married to Naresh. She was staying with him at the railway quarters near KR Puram railway station. It is learnt that their relationship soured soon after the marriage and Ramita’s mother alleged that Naresh and his family members were demanding dowry from her.

Around 4 am on Monday, Naresh and his family members found Ramita hanging from the ceiling and approached the KR Puram police. While Naresh and family told the police that Ramita ended her life due to unknown reasons, Ramita’s mother suspected foul play.

The police rushed to the spot and shifted the body for post mortem. “Only after receiving Ramita’s postmortem report will we know the reason behind her death. We have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating,” the police said.

Naresh and Ramita were in love for eight months prior to the marriage, and Ramita had convinced her parents to accept Naresh. But Naresh’s parents were not happy with the marriage, but despite that the two got married on March 19. It is learnt the Ramita and her mother-in-law had a fight over a trivial issue of shifting her clothes from a cupboard.
