Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has finally approved the formation of the Telangana State Public Service Commission, a constitutional body for job recruitment at all levels in the administration. He named Ganta Chakrapani, an academician and professor at BR Ambedkar University, as TSPSC chairman.

Following a series of meetings, the CM on Wednesday finally put his seal of approval and sent the file to the Governor. Late on Wednesday night, chief secretary Rajiv Sharma issued a notification constituting the Commission.

Telangana Gazetted Officers’ Association president C. Vittal, former MLA Dr Chandravathi and social activist Mohamad Matin-uddin Quadri are the members appointed to the Commission. As per rules, the 10-member Commission should have at least 50 per cent of its members from the services. Earlier, the Governor had rejected five names sent by the CM stating that professors and advocates cannot be considered as members from the service category.

This will pave way for recruitment of more than one lakh jobs in the government sector. Though the existing vacancies in different cadres, in all the 32 departments in the state government, have gone up to 1, 22,000 from 1,07,000 on June, 2, the new Service Commission must recruit candidates by following the procedures.

The government needs to identify the vacancies and also inform the Commission of the particular positions that need to be filled. The Commission will then issue a formal notification. Then the Commission will take up interviews and select the candidates. All this may take 15 to 24 months.
