Fooling Act: Fuel delivery boys cheat public in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: As many as 20 cases are being filed every month against fuel theft in the city. Officials attribute it to the increase in fuel prices in the past year.

Mr Bhaskar Reddy, Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, Hyderabad, said, “In most of the cases, we have found that delivery boys dispense less fuel by diverting the attention of motorists. In a few cases, the meters of the fuel dispensers were tampered.” He said, “We conduct random inspections and monitor the delivery of fuels at different fuel stations. We also perform decoy operations and watch the fuel delivery operations”.

The tolerance limit for difference in fuel delivery is 25 ml for every 5 litres. He said that if the difference was more than that, officials open the delivery machine and if it is found to be tampered with, they book cases against the offenders. “The is a penalty of Rs 25,000 for the first offence and a jail term for the second. However, no one has been imprisoned for fuel theft here” Reddy said.
