Bengaluru: Many may have given the credit for the BJP’s stellar performance in the Assembly polls to Prime Minister Narendra Modi whose blitzkrieg across the state in the last ten days before the poll is said to have helped the party cross the three-digit mark and reach 104 seats.
But none can discount the efforts put in by party national president, Amit Shah which certainly paid dividends for the party. Unlike Congress president, Rahul Gandhi who used to return to Delhi and take a break of two or three days before returning to Bengaluru for the campaign, Mr Shah stayed put in the city for 34 days.
Sources in the party said he would go to constituencies where the party strategy and campaign were not upto expectations and hold rallies before sitting down with leaders and candidates to fine-tune the strategy for any particular constituency.
He would then return to Bengaluru before heading to another constituency. He also visited several famous temples, maths and pontiffs in his attempt to reach out to different communities. In all, Mr Shah during his 34 days in Karnataka, travelled a staggering 57,135 kms.
The important places he visited include the Siddaganga math of the Lingayats, Adichunchanagiri math of the Vokkaligas, the Krishna Math in Udupi and the Kollur Mookambika temple.
