Thiruvananthapuram: The police has registered a case against a group on Facebook with paedophilic content. This is after a report was published by DC regarding delay in registering the case. The complainant, Jaljith Thottoli, had filed the complaint on May 18 through an email to Cyberdome and Cyber Police, but the police had not registered the case until Tuesday.

When DC asked cyber police, they had said that they had not even received the complaint. However since a copy of that mail was marked to DC, it was clear that the complaint was received. DC forwarded the mail to cyber police upon their request. On Tuesday, Jaljith and DC received a mail from the police saying that the petition was registered in the cyber crime police station and a preliminary report was in progress.





The complainant, an activist who has helped bust other paedophilic groups on social media, told DC that there was little to rejoice from this response. "Police ignored the case in the beginning. Earlier too, they had to be pressurised to take up complaints which I filed against other paedophilic groups. If media outcry is needed for the common man to get justice, it is not a good sign. Moreover, getting the case registered might be their way of pacifying the complainant," he said.

He said that he was anxious over whether the case would be earnestly pursued. "I have my concerns regarding whether there will be necessary follow-ups. Police has been exhibiting a lax attitude when it comes to paedophilic offenses. This was obvious in the Edappal theatre molestation case," he said. He pointed out that the police had made promises of arresting every member of 'Poombatta', the Telegram group he helped bust, but so far only one person had been arrested.
