Hunger strike over Metro realignment at Badi Chowdi

Hyderabad: The Joint Action Committee of Badi Chowdi, Sultan Bazaar and Koti traders on Thursday, took part in a hunger strike to protest the proposed change in the Metro Rail route at Badi Chowdi.

Over 170 shops will be demolished and four buildings will have to go if the Metro Rail route follows the proposed alignment.

Govind Rathi of the TJAC said, “Since the past three months we have been requesting Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to sit with us and understand our problems. the government is not willing. For the MIM, the state changed the alignment by seven kilometers. We are only asking for change of one km.” There is yet to be an official communication from the government to the HMR on the proposed route and till that is done no legal recourse can be taken. The traders have decided to put forth their point through agitation.
