Hyderabad: NRI held for duping city woman of Rs 6 lakh

Hyderabad: An NRI hailing from the city, who duped a woman to the tune of over Rs 6.5 lakh on the pretext of repaying her after their marriage, was arrested by the Cyberabad cybercrime police. The accused was intercepted by immigration officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and handed over to the cyber crime police on Tuesday.

Six months ago, a woman living in Vasanthnagar of Kukatpally lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police that one person who claimed to be Arjun Chandra, whom she met through a matrimonial website, had taken Rs 6.67 lakh from her on the pretext of returning the money after their marriage.

During the investigation, the police discovered that the profile was created by one Rajoori Vikram (26) under the false name of Arjun Chandra. Vikram, a native of Hyderabad, was already married to a woman in the US. The DCP said, “Vikram had shared the picture of an Indian model Sujo Mathew as his profile picture and the picture of Swati Piramal, a well-known Indian scientist and Padma Shri awardee, as his mother’s.”
