Hyderabad: With elections round the corner, AICC general secretary and TS in-charge R.C. Khuntia has started a dialogue with dissident leaders, holding one-on-one meetings to convince them to work unitedly in the interest of the party.
Mr Khuntia is telling the dissidents that this is a critical time to prepare the ground for the Congress to come to power at the Centre and in the state. To make AICC president Mr Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister, all party leaders should work unitedly. He is asking them not to go to the media, and to apprise the high command of any issues they are facing.
However, one of the demands of the dissident leaders is for the high command to replace Mr Khuntia as TS in-charge.
The TPCC has taken flats at Banjara Hills to provide accommodation to Mr Khuntia and the three AICC secretaries deputed to the state Congress. Mr Khuntia is functioning from the accommodation.
The party leadership has asked the three AICC secretaries to stay in the state for 100 days and tour the districts allotted to them.
A senior Congress leader who spoke with Mr Khuntia said they were not against any individual but were interested in surviving in the party. He told Mr Khuntia that the Congress in its present position would find it very difficult to face the TRS.
He said he wanted change in the party activities and a more aggressive stand against the TRS government. He said some leaders were taking party activities in their constituencies and moving with the people but the leadership should also work to activate the cadre.
