Hyderabad: The BJP is working out strategies to make the party the main political force in Telangana and keep it battle ready for the 2019 elections.
BJP national president Amit Shah, who held a series of meetings with Telangana unit president G. Kishan Reddy, core committee members and other leaders injecting the much needed booster dose to them, setting an ambitious 10 crore party membership target in the country and 35 lakh in Telangana.
He termed the allegation that the Centre was biased towards Telangana as baseless. “I strongly condemn it. The BJP treats all states equally,” he said to a question.
He also left it to local party unit to take a decision on the continuation of the alliance with the TD.
“Our online membership target is 10 crore in the country and 35 lakh in Telangana. In this connection I am travelling all over the country including Telangana,” Mr Shah said.
The BJP will hold its online and mobile me-mbership drive in Telangana from January 12 to March 31.
Mr Shah, who arrived in Hyderabad on Wednesday night, spent the day discussing strategies to strengthen the party in Telangana with senior leaders. He will also do a similar exercise in Andhra Pradesh.
Asked about the reasons for the party’s failing to take off in Telangana, he replied, “I don’t think negative. We have chalked out an action plan to strengthen the party.
I cannot reveal this at a press conference. You will see in the next four years. The BJP will be the main political force in Telangana,” Mr Shah said.
Telangana BJP president G. Kishan Reddy said the BJP was trying to mould public opinion in Telangana in its favour.
“The BJP will bring pressure on the TRS government to implement its electoral promises. We are seeing some forces trying to whip up communal passions. We should face it and strive for development of Telangana,” he said.
