Hyderabad: After murdering his seven months pregnant wife on Saturday morning, the assistant bank manager jumped in front of a running train between Vidyanagar and Jamia Osmania the same afternoon.
Inspector of Nallakunta police station V. Yadagiri Reddy said that Mekala Madhav, 30, who worked at a bank murdered his wife Sumalata, 25, and then killed himself due to domestic disputes between the couple.
“Mekala and Sumalata married ten months ago but the couple had domestic disputes and were not happy. Early on Saturday morning, Mekala killed Sumalata by strangulating her. He then left home and committed suicide,” said the cop.
According to the police official, Sumalata’s mother went to her daughter’s residence at Nallakunta after getting the news about the death of her son-in-law. However, on reaching the couple’s residence at around 11 pm, she found the door locked and broke it with the help of neighbours and found her dead.
Officials did not find any suicide note at the house but said that they will check for any personal note or diary entry that either of the victims had.
Talking to this newspaper, Ramesh, Mekala’s maternal uncle denied any domestic dispute and added that the couple were not having any problems. Refuting the claims of the maternal uncle, Srinivas Acharya, a family friend of Sumalata said that the couple was having differences and both of them were counselled by family elders.
“Mekala did not speak to Sumalata and ignored her all the time. She was depressed and sought intervention of family members. A few months ago, her family visited Mekala at his residence in Nallakunta and requested him to end all differences,” said the family friend.
Lingamma, approached the police and lodged a complaint at the Nallakunta police station.
