Tirupati: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken a U-turn with regard to special category status for the state.

During an interaction with the media, Mr Nai-du alleged that Mr Modi had failed to fulfil promises that he had made during the 2014 election campaign in Tirupati.





In a reply to a question on possible alliance with the Congress, he listed the different occasions wherein the Congress had came forward to extend help to the TD.

“At the time of formation of the United Front government, the Congr-ess stepped forward to extend its support to the Front. Likewise, in the recent past during the no-confidence motion moved by the TD in Parl-iament against the BJP government, they again gave support,” Mr Naidu said.

He said the Congress was promising special category status for the state when it came to power at the Centre.

Mr Naidu added that the TD would not hesita-te to seek the help of the Congress when needed.

“The BJP made a secret alliance with the TRS, YSRC and Jana Sena to take both the states in their clutches. We are defending it by making an alliance with the Congress, he said.

He slammed the BJP and said that due to lack of cooperation from the Centre to develop the state, the TD had broken the alliance with them.

“Even after breaking the alliance with NDA government, our MPs continued to support it with a hope that they will realise and do justice to the state, but they betra-yed the state again which made us to leave the alli-ance completely,” he said.

“Though we didn’t rec-eive any cooperation fr-om the Centre, the TD go-vernment laid the path of development for the state and improved infrastructure in our own way,” Mr Naidu said.

Reacting to TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao's comments on him, Mr Naidu said, “I have 40 years of experience in politics and never spoke in this manner. I strongly object to KCR’s comments and want to rem-ind him that Hyderabad is also a Telugu state and belongs to the Telugu people”.

He alleged that the BJP had been provoking the TRS to use harsh language against him.
