Bengaluru: Drunk father sets himself, two sons on fire, one kid dies

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a one-and-half year old boy died and a five-year-old boy sustained severe burn injuries after their drunk father doused them in petrol along with himself and set all of them on firee in Thalaghattapura police station limits early Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Sai Charan, youngest son of Srinivasamurthy, 38, and Premalatha, 30. The couple got married seven years ago and lived in a rented house in Anjanapura. Srinivasamurthy was working as an electrician.
The police said that Srinivasamurthy and his eldest son, Chetan, are currently being treated at Victoria Hospital for burn injuries and both are said to be critical.
According to the police, Srinivasamurthy had become an alcoholic and his wife asked him to quit the habit. The couple often used to fight over the issue and two days back Premalatha left for her parent’s house in anger.
The police suspect that depressed over the same, he might have tried to kill himself along with his children.
A senior official said that on Saturday night he came home drunk and decided to end his life along with his children and at 2:45 am, while his children were sleeping, he doused them with petrol along with himself and set them ablaze.
When the neighbours heard the cries of the children, they immediately rushed and doused the fire. The beat police in the area rushed to the spot and shifted them to the Victoria hospital, where Sai Charan succumbed.
Thalaghattapura police have registered a case and begun investigation.
