After the race, it’s family time for leaders

Hyderabad: Tired after almost two months of lobbying for tickets and hectic campaigning, political leaders are using the four-day break till the counting of votes on December 11 to spend time with their families. The TRS leaders are spending more time with their families, but the Congress leaders are not so lucky and can only spend a part of their time with their families.
Interestingly, politicians in Telangana state had a 15-day break in 2014, after the elections on April 30. The results were declared only on May 16.
TRS president and caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is spending time with his family and so are the other caretaker ministers. Caretaker minister K.T. Rama Rao addressed a press conference on Saturday and spent the remaining time with his family on Saturday and Sunday as did Mr T. Harish Rao.
The situation in the Congress is tougher when compared to the TRS. The party leaders were busy with press conferences on Saturday, and top leaders held a core committee meeting on Sunday.
With the shock dealt by the exit polls, the Congress leaders are working out ways to attract independent candidates to their fold in case there is a hung Assembly. Some of the leaders were working on protecting the EVMs to ensure that they are not tampered with.
A senior Congress leader said, “The TRS candidates and leaders were more relaxed from the beginning. We have not got space like TRS leaders. The candidates were announced early by TRS. The lobbying and delayed ticket announcement ate into our campaigning time. This resulted in additional stress during the campaigning. The seat adjustments were one of the major issues that we dealt with. Our actual campaigning started after the nominations. Even now, we are worried about the EVMs. Our party leaders are not spending their full time with their families.”
There were no such worries for the IAS, IPS and IFS officers who were part of the election work. Many officers along with their families took part in Vanabhojanam held at Kandlakoya urban park in the city on Sunday.
