Hyderabad: Policemen were abused, pushed and beaten up when they tried to intervene and stop the relative of a patient from vandalising hospital property late on Monday night.
The patient’s elder son, Mir Mohiuddin Ali Khan (also known as Ahmed Ali), claimed that his mother was ‘killed’ by the staff of Global Hospital.
According to DCP Central Zone, P. Viswa Prasad, the 45-year-old patient, Shameem Begum, was admitted to the hospital in December with a history of interstitial lung disease and lung infection. On December 24 she was put on ventilator support and around 8:45 pm had a cardiac arrest and died.
“The situation got out of hand when, soon after hearing about the cardiac arrest and noticing the CPR procedure, the patient’s elder son Mir Mohiuddin Ali Khan, 31, started shouting loudly and started vandalising hospital property. He also beat up the security staff Irfan, Srinivas, D. Naresh, Nagaraju, Gangaiah and duty manager Rajkumar,” said the official.
The police got a call at 8:53 pm from M Nagaraju, Special Team Member of Global Hospital who told the police about the destruction of hospital property. DCP Prasad said a police constable and Home Guard were rushed to the hospital along with a watch constable and a patrol car was also dispatched to the hospital.
“They were vandalising chairs, glasses, furniture of the hospital and shouting,” he added. He said when the cops tried to stop them from breaking the glass, they pushed them aside, abusing in filthy language and also beat up constable Susheel Singh with a monitor, following which ACP, Saifabad Division and Central Zone were called to provide additional forces.
It took the Saifabad police close to two hours to bring the situation under control. A case of negligence has been registered against the hospital by Ahmed Ali.
On Tuesday, Mohammed Abdul Gani, chief security officer of Global Hospital registered a complaint against Ahmed Ali, Mir Barkat Ali Khan, 29, Mir Mustafa Ali Khan, 18, and Mohsin and some other persons for vandalising hospital property.
Accordingly a case was booked under sections 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 427 r/w 149 of IPC and section 4 of the Telangana Medicare Service persons and Medicare service institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act-2008 by the Saifabad police.
The body of Shameem Begum was sent for post-mortem examination, which will reveal the exact cause of death.
