TRS ‘hijacked’ Bathukamma, BJP Mahila Morcha alleges

The TS BJP women’s wing president Vijaya Akkula slammed the TRS for ‘hijacking’ the Bathukamma festival. All wings of the BJP this year are taking part in the Bathukamma festivities, to reach out to every Telugu woman, giving tough competition to former TRS MP K. Kavitha who is well known for popularising the festival.

The BJP is celebrating Bathukamma across the state and abroad. BJP MLC and national executive member N, Ramchander Rao will be looking after Bathukamma celebrations abroad on behalf of TS BJP president K. Laxman.

He has left for London on Friday.

BJP Mahila Morcha state president Akkula Vijaya has been given the responsibility to reach out to every woman in the state.

On Friday, Ms Vijaya, while celebrating Bathukamma in Nizamabad, hit out at Ms Kavitha. She said, “There can’t be patents on Bathukamma. It is the festival of every Telugu woman and the BJP is celebrating it across the state since long.

This year too, BJP leaders are participating in Bathukamma with common people.

Women in the state are inclined towards the BJP and many women leaders from other parties will join the BJP in large numbers. The TRS can’t hijack the state’s festival and restrict it to be celebrated only by itself.”

A senior leader said that the BJP will not only participate in Bathukamma in Telangana state and London but also in the Gulf countries.

Telugu people are joining the BJP in large numbers in the Gulf, he said.
