Everyone is playing it safe over the announcement of the fate of the proposed three capitals for AP.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced the proposal of three capitals during the winter Assembly session’s concluding day on December 17.




The Amaravati farmers are up in arms and continuing agitations against the proposal. The people of north Andhra and Rayalaseema welcomed the proposal.

The opposition initially strongly opposed the proposal but have now decided to wait till the outcome of AP Cabinet meeting on the new proposal.

The Cabinet meet will be held on December 27 and the government would officially announce the decision on three capitals in detail on that day. Opposition parties, Amaravati farmers and various political parties are waiting for the D-day to draw their future course of action.

Minister Botsa Satyanarayana said that the Cabinet will discuss the experts’ committee report on December 27 and would take a final decision. He said that the Andhra Pradesh High Court and the secretariat are situated at different places in 14 states and defended the proposal of three capitals. He said that justice would be done to Amaravati farmers and full details of three capitals would be disclosed after the cabinet meeting.

Interestingly, secretariat employees and officials are discussing statements made by the CM and ministers on the proposal and also that on the future secretariat. They are also eagerly awaiting the result of the Cabinet meeting.

Jana Sena chief K. Pawan Kalyan who severely opposed the proposal has not sent a JSP team led by his brother K. Nagababu and former speaker Nadendla Manohar to support pro-Amaravati farmers.

Later, he stated that he will respond after the official announcement.

CPI assistant general secretary M. Nageswara Rao, leaders of the Jana Sena, Telugu Desam, Aam Aadmi Party and other parties said that Amara-vati should continue as the only capital of AP state as it is accessible to all given its central location. They said that already the Assembly, secretariat and the High Court were functioning in Amaravati hence the new proposal is unacceptable.

Congress MP K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao said that their party will disclose their stand on the three capitals after the official announcement on December 27.
