There are almost no chances now for the ruling TRS party MLAs and MLCs of getting nominated posts as corporation chairperson in the near future.

In the wake of economic slowdown and a financial crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the state government is not in a position to appoint nominated posts, which are due since long time. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had promised to give corporation chairperson posts to his party legislators but will not be able to keep his promise.



Accordingly, the government had exempted 27 corporation chairperson posts from office of profit to facilitate appointing MLAs and MLCs.

There are more than 70 corporations, of which, around 25 are major corporations and its top nominated slot is highly prestigious. In fact, Rao was resolved to close these nominated appointments after the budget session.

However, the Covid-19 crisis and subsequent lockdown has severely affected, first the Budget Session, and subsequently, all financial projections of the state. Even as Covid-19 positive cases are rising alarmingly, the lockdown has caused government revenues to dwindle to near insignificant levels.

With the government hardly in a position to give full salaries to its employees, the TRS government is likely to postpone appointment of nominated posts.

Each Cabinet minister gets a salary of around Rs 4 lakh a month, including allowances while MLAs get around Rs 3 lakh per month, including allowances. If the government names people for the nominated posts, they should be paid Rs 4 lakh each month.
