A student from Hanamkonda was barred for appearing for NEET at a private engineering college in Warangal on Sunday after she failed to produce her latest COVID-19 negative certificate.

The student, B. Sai Vaishnavi, had mentioned in the declaration that she had recovered from COVID 20 days back and produced a negative certificate. However, the officials demanded a latest certificate.



The shocked student and her parents were left with no alternative but to go searching for an urban primary health centre (UPHC) where she could be tested.

The Mills Colony police who were present there helped Vaishnavi by taking her in their patrol vehicle to SRR Thota UPHC where she got her rapid antigen test (RAT) done.

The test gives a result in half-an-hour. The UPHC doctors issued a report of negative result and Vaishnavi was rushed to the examination centre, just in time.

“Even though I had mentioned that I have recovered from the virus and completed the quarantine period, the authorities did not listen to me,” Vaishnavi said.



“What if I was indeed still positive for the virus? Would I not be allowed to appear for the exam? There should have been special arrangements for positive students and those still under quarantine period. With no such arrangements how can the authorities stop me from appearing for the exam,” the student asked.

“I have studied hard for two years with an aim to crack this exam but because of such rules, it would have all gone to waste,” Vaishnavi said.
