A fresh dispute erupted between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana following reports of TSGenco drawing water from Srisailam left bank for power generation. While the AP government raised an objection, its water resources department’s engineer-in-chief C. Narayana Reddy dashed off a letter to the chairman of Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) seeking his immediate intervention.

Narayana Reddy informed the board that water level at Srisailam project on September 24 was 884.8 ft and it had 213.401 tmc ft of water. Gencos of both states were using water for hydel generation. On Friday, the water level had fallen to 881.3 ft and the capacity to 195.21 tmc ft (thousand million cubic feet).

He said that in the KRMB meeting held on May 6, the chairman had observed that the demand for electricity was increasing and states needed to explore new avenues for power generation.


The states had faced an alarming situation during summer, he explained. Genco authorities of both states may be required to stop withdrawal of water for power generation, contended Andhra Pradesh.
