Land for Outer Ring Road may be pooled

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government may try the land pooling approach to secure about 4,000 acres required for the 183-km Outer Ring Road. Acquiring the land would cost the government about Rs 5,000 crore.

The Centre has given in-principle approval to fund Rs 19,700 crore ORR. Its route has been tentatively decided.

“The government is likely to adopt land pooling policy for the land required for the ORR, on the lines of land pooling for the capital. This will save Rs 5,000 crore which is estimated to be the cost of acquisition,” a senior official said.

The ORR is planned to be an eight-lane ground level expressway with service roads on either side. Officials say the government will need to acquire 22.5 acres per km.

According to the draft, the ORR passes through Nalla Cheruvu near Guntur, Gudivada, Hanuman Junction, Nuzvidu, Mylavaram, Kanchikacherala and Tenali.

Officials are also looking at a shorter alignment to reduce the amount of land that is needed for the ORR.

An official said that the Centre has given the green signal for the project but the right of way has to be provided by the state government. An official said any changes will have to be cleared by the CM.

“We have given the details of the ORR draft plan to the Singapore team that is preparing the master plan for the capital. They may ask for a change in the ORR alignment depending upon the master plan. Any change has to be cleared by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu,” the official said.
