Revival call for Congress in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh will be on a three-day visit starting from January 20 to meet Congress leaders of both Telangana and AP separately to gather inputs on how to strengthen the party. On January 20, he will meet Telangana state leaders and the next day he will be meeting AP leaders at Tirupati.

AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi has finalised a strategy on revitalising the Congress and has sent this to all units across the country for their views to act accordingly.

Senior leaders, including present and former office bearers, MPs and legislators, have been divided into eight groups of 16 members each. These groups would participate in discussions on specific agenda for two hours each. Group discussions would be held for two days on January 20 and 21. On January 22, Mr Singh will meet intellectuals and other personalities from different sections of the society to know their views and suggestions on how to strengthen the Congress. In specific, discussions will be held on organisational and structural changes, party discipline, media relations, need for alliances with like minded parties etc.

Meanwhile, briefing newsmen at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, TPCC vice-president Shabbir Ali said in view of tremendous response for the ongoing party membership drive, the target has now been increased to 35 lakh from 20 lakh. He said the TPCC has discussed the preparations for next GHMC elections and soon the party will hold division-wise meetings with party workers. He said Congress workers would be briefed on how the party, during its rule from 2004 to 2014, has developed GHMC into a ‘Must See Destination’ of the world.

By spending over Rs 1 lakh crore to build infrastructure like Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, 11-km PVNR Express Way and 160-km long Nehru ORR the Congress regime proved to be a golden decade for the GHMC, he added
