Panipat, Haryana: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the national programme of “Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao” (Save girl child-Educate girl child) campaign in Panipat, Haryana.
The scheme will address the issue within the broad framework of survival, protection and education of girl children.
The BBBP Scheme will be implemented in 100 selected districts, which will cover all states and UTs and is a joint initiative of Women and Child Development, Human Resource Development and Health Ministries.
Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit has been roped in as the brand ambassador of the campaign. Speaking at the event she was happy to be a part of such an intiative.
Here are the highlights of his speech:
To doctors I say, society has made you a doctor to save lives, to get rid of pain, illness not to the kill girl child
Birth of a girl child must be celebrated
I am thankful to Maneka ji and her team that they chose Haryana for this initiative
People want educated daughters-in-law but think many times before educating their daughters, how can this go on
There was a time when girls were drowned in large vessels of milk, but we are worse than that too, we kill in womb
Can there be a horror worse than killing a child just because it is a girl?
Whatever sector you analyze, the percentage of women surpasses that of men
What we are pledging to do today wont change things quickly, it will take long for people's mindset to change
