H1N1 virus claims one more, 15 new cases in Telangana State

Hyderabad: A 19-year-old female patient from Basar, Adilabad district, died due to H1N1 on Thursday morning, taking the death toll in the state to 21 for January.

The woman had severe symptoms of H1N1 and had come to a private hospital on January 20. Her samples were taken on January 21 evening and sent to the Institute of Preventive Medicine. Since her parents could not afford the treatment, she was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital late at night. She died on Thursday morning.

A senior doctor said, “She had symptoms of H1N1. However, the patient came very late. There are three more suspected cases on ventilator support in the Acute Medical Care Ward of the hospital. The problem is that isolating them is difficult as they need extra support.”

Doctors at Gandhi Hos-pital have been asking for extra space for better treatment. There are 35 H1N1 patients in Gandhi Hospital at present.

Adding to the number of people infected, 15 patients were tested positive on Thursday, taking the the total number to 259. Two cases are of children and six cases of adults below 50 years.
