Road and water woes haunt Hyderabad city locals

Hyderabad: While the most spectacular independent houses and villas dot the western part of the city, bordering the IT corridor in areas like Gandipet, Manikonda and Raidurg, the approach roads to these areas are not motorable.
Also, mega projects for high-range to mid-segment buyers, which have attracted professionals, do not have support infrastructure like roads and drainage facilities. Most of these areas are also completely dependent on tanker water.
Lack of infrastructure is also a reason for many of the residential areas having a large number of vacant flats. Some of the impressive properties in Manikonda and around Durgam Cheruvu have been converted to PGs for single professionals who use less water and are ready to adjust even with the lack of infrastructure.
“The houses around this area are increasingly being converted into PGs to find occupants. Though single IT professionals, who come back home only for a couple of hours of sleep, are able to manage with less water and comparatively bad roads, families do not want to stay in such conditions and are not willing to pay the current rents due to the bad roads and infrastructure,” said Narayana Rao, a flat owner near Durgam Cheruvu.
