Pakistan ignored hard Indian evidence against Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi

New Delhi: Pakistan deliberately ignored strong evidence provided by top Indian agencies, like the Intelligence Bureau and the National Investigation Agency, as recently as last year against Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the former operations commander of the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba.

The Indian agencies presented a detailed dossier to their Pakistani counterparts that would have helped them make a foolproof case against Lakhvi. However, Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency and its prosecutors dumped the evidence provided to them. Sources said this was a deliberate ploy to weaken the case against Lakhvi.

“At this rate even Lakhvi will get discharged in the 26/11 case much like Hafiz Saeed,” a senior intelligence official said. Among some of the crucial evidence provided by India were the intercepts of a satellite telephone conversation between Lakhvi and the terrorists who carried out the Mumbai attack. It is believed that Lakhvi being the main planner was giving most of the directions to the terrorists.
