Urdu loses sheen to Telugu

Hyderabad: “Every program, when Deccan Radio started, was a live program,” said Oudesh Rani Bawa, speaking about the first radio station of the erstwhile Hyderabad State at the session “Deccan Radio and Urdu Culture” at HLF on Monday.

Speaking about the redundant technology of the past Manzurul Amin, former producer at Deccan Radio said, “There was only one recording system available called wired recorder and that too used to get erased after we played something thrice or more.”

Recalling the heydays of radio he said that Urdu as a language had deteriorated and Telugu has taken precedence in Hyderabad.
