Hyderabad: In a major boost to school sanitation, the Power Finance Corporation Limited has pledged to build government school toilets in Andhra Pradesh with a funding of Rs 123 crore.
This will be as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility activities under the Swachh Bharat programme. PFCL will also lend Rs 1,112 crore, of which, Rs 1,000 crore will go to the discoms.
PFCL chairman and managing director M.K. Goel and project director, A.K. Agarwal met AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and signed a memorandum of understanding in this regard.
PFCL has pledged to build toilets in government schools in all districts except Visakhapatnam. Mr Goel said PFCL would foot the Rs 123-crore bill to build 7,200 toilets as part of the company’s CSR activities.
Mr Naidu told Mr Goel that every primary school would get Rs 1,000 per month, while higher secondary schools would get Rs 2,500 per month for maintenance of the toilets.
Thousands of toilets have become defunct due to lack of maintenance. PFCL will also lend Rs 1,112 crore to improve AP’s energy infrastructure. About Rs 1,000 crore of this would be to boost the fund-starved discoms in the context of the bifurcation.
The AP Southern Power Distribution Company Limited will get Rs 600 crore while AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited will get Rs 400 crore. PFCL will lend another Rs 112 crore for the supply of 4,000 solar pumpsets to farmers in the state.
The CM also asked PFCL to support the state in skill development of the youth. He also said that the AP government would strive to make the state the best in the country in power supply and efficiency.
