Telangana government to probe Himachal Pradesh Beas river tragedy

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government is inquiring into the tragic Beas river accident earlier this year, where 24 engineering students died. The government will decide on safety measures to be taken by colleges while organising industrial tours.

In June 2014, 24 students of VNR Vignan Jyothi Engineering College died in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh after being washed away in Beas river waters released by a nearby dam.

Technical education commissioner Shailaja Ramaiyer has been asked to conduct an inquiry and suggest actions to be initiated. She will suggest safety measures to be taken while undertaking such tours and punitive action against college managements for negligence leading to loss of life.
